Dr.
Birce Mercanoglu Taban undertook her degrees in Food Engineering from Hacettepe
University in 1999 (BSc.), and 2002 (MSc.) respectively. She completed her PhD.
from Hacettepe University (2007), which dealt with coupling immunomagnetic
separation with molecular assays in the detection of foodborne pathogens in
foods. She has published over 40 articles peer-reviewed papers and book
chapters concerning foodborne pathogens, rapid microbiological analysis
techniques, and dairy microbiology. She worked at the Canadian Research
Institute for Food Safety (CRIFS) from 2003-2004 as an invited scientist. She
has coordinated and has been involved in several research projects at national
and international levels, conducting rapid microbiological analysis techniques,
food microbiology, and food science and technology. Due to her expertise, she
has participated as a member and a scientific advisor in several expert
panels/workshops at national and international levels, in the Turkish Food
Safety Association, Turkish Chambers of Food Engineers, and Turkish Society of
Microbiology. She is a Board Member and Foreign Affairs Executer of the
Association of Food Technology-Turkey, which is an adhering body of EFFoST and
IUFoST. She has also taught several national and international graduate and
other training courses on food microbiology, dairy microbiology, food safety,
and rapid microbiological analysis techniques at the university and she is now working as a Professor of Dairy Science at Ankara University
(Turkey).
