Biyografi
18 Ekim 1965 tarihinde Trabzon'da doğdu. 1990 yılında Karadeniz Teknik Üniversitesi Fatih Eğitim Fakültesi Fizik Öğretmenliği Bölümünden mezun olan Orhan UZUN, 1993 yılında Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesinde Fizik Anabilim Dalında yüksek lisans, 1998 yılında Gazi Üniversitesi Fizik Eğitimi Anabilim Dalında doktora çalışmasını tamamladı.
1991 yılında Urfa-Siverek İmam Hatip Lisesi’nde kısa bir süre Fizik Öğretmenliği yaptıktan sonra 1992 yılında Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi’nde Araştırma görevlisi olarak göreve başlayan UZUN, Gaziosmanpaşa Üniversitesi’nde sırasıyla 1998 yılında Dr., 1999 yılında Yardımcı Doçent, 2005 yılında Doçent ve 2010 yılında Profesör unvanlarını aldı.
Doktora eğitimi sırasında İngiltere’de Sheffield Üniversitesinde, doktora sonrasında ise Amerika’da Stanford Üniversitesi ve Silicon Vadisi’nde misafir araştırmacı olarak bulundu.
DPT, TÜBİTAK ve Üniversiteler tarafından desteklenen 18 Ar-Ge projesinde araştırmacı ve yürütücü olarak görev yapan UZUN, bugüne kadar 5’i doktora olmak üzere toplam 11 lisansüstü tez çalışmasını yönetti.
TÜBİTAK ve bazı Bakanlıklarda proje değerlendiricisi, hakemlik ve panelistlik gibi görevlerin yanı sıra bilimsel araştırma makalesi yayınlayan onlarca dergide hakemlik yapan UZUN, halen iki bilimsel derginin Editörler kurulunda görev yapmaktadır.
Süperiletkenlik, hidrojen depolama, akıllı ve nanoyapılı malzeme alanlarında araştırmalar yapan UZUN’un bugüne kadar, 76’sı SCI kapsamında olmak üzere toplam 227 araştırma makalesi ve bildirisi yayınlandı. Ulusal ve uluslararası pek çok konferansa çağrılı konuşmacı olarak davet edilen UZUN’un eserlerine 10 Ocak 2025 tarihi itibarıyla 3.554 atıf yapıldı.
2012 yılından itibaren Bülent Ecevit Üniversitesinde görev yapan Uzun, bu süre zarfında Rektör Yardımcılığı ve Dekanlık gibi yönetim görevlerinde bulundu. Aralık 2015’ten itibaren Yükseköğretim Kalite Kurulu Başkanlığı görevini yürüttü. Bu görevi devam ederken 18 Nisan 2017 tarihinde Cumhurbaşkanımız Sayın Recep Tayyip Erdoğan tarafından Bartın Üniversitesi Rektörlüğüne atanan Prof. Dr. UZUN, 21 Nisan 2021 tarihinde bu göreve yeniden atandı. Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun, evli ve üç çocuk babasıdır.
