Oğuz Can Turgay was born on October 28, 1971, in ANKARA. He completed his undergraduate education in Soil Science and Plant Nutrition at Ankara University's Faculty of Agriculture from 1989 to 1993 and his master's degree between 1994 and 1997 at the Institute of Science, Soil Science Department, Ankara University. In 1995, Oğuz Can Turgay was appointed as a Research Assistant in the same department, and after completing his master's degree, he completed his doctorate between 1998 and 2002 under the Japan Government Scholarship (MONBUSHO) at Niigata University Faculty of Agriculture Soil Department in Japan.
Dr. Oğuz Can Turgay was appointed as an Assistant Professor to the Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition at Ankara University's Faculty of Agriculture in 2010, and he received his Associate Professor title in 2012. During the ten-year period from the completion of his doctoral studies to receiving his associate professorship, he conducted postdoctoral research and studies at Ghent University in Belgium (2009) with a JASSO scholarship at Niigata University in Japan (2010), and with a FULBRIGHT scholarship at Ohio State University in the USA (2011).
Between 2015 and 2020, Dr. Oğuz Can Turgay coordinated the "Global Capacity Development in Higher Education and Training for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Production" (GLOCAL AGE 2020) project, supported by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology's Reinventing Japan Program, involving a consortium of five universities from Turkey (Ege University, Ankara University, and Middle East Technical University) and Japan (Niigata University and Fukushima University). GLOCAL AGE 2020, which activated a large number of students in various durations and categories, was awarded the "International Cooperation Award" in the institutional award category of the Republic of Turkey Higher Education Council Outstanding Achievement Awards-2020.
On October 1, 2018, Dr. Oğuz Can Turgay was appointed to a professorship and continues his academic activities with Niigata, Fukushima, and Yamanashi Universities. Oğuz Can Turgay is married and a father of two children.
