This research was carried out on the leaves and fruits of Rhus coriaria L. (Sumach) collected from th Artvin and Mersin regions. Leaves and fruits of both samples were screened for anthraquinones, coumarins, alkaloids, flavonoids, anthocyanins, cardiac glycosides, saponins, tannins (Catechic, gallic), volatile oils and fixed oils. Leaves and fruits gave positive results for flavonoid, gallotannin and volatile oil, while only pericarp gave a positive reaction for anthocyanin and fixed oil. The seeds are found to contain fixed oil. Samples from both locations indicated the same results for each reaction. Active substances have been investigated quantitatively and found in different quantities in the two samples. Tannin and anthocyanin are in greater amounts in the Artvin samples whereas, volatile oil and fixed oil are greater in Mersin samples.
