Some andrological examinations in Arabian stallions removed from races

Özet

In this experiment, some andrological examinations of 18 Arabian race stallions aged from 8 to 12 and removed from races were performed for using as stud. For this purpose, employability of stallions as a stud was investigated by testing of libido sexualis and sexual behaviours and determining of spermatological parameters. Libido sexualis, sexual behaviours (coming, mounting, clutching and ejaculation) and accomodation to artificial vagina of stallions were evaluated from 0 to 5 in the presence of a oestrus female. Three ejaculates from each stallion were collected on consecutive days using an artificial vagina and totally 54 ejeculates were evaluated. In collected ejeculates, semen volume, motility, live sperm, abnormal sperm, and pH values were determined. Examined IS stallions were evaluated as 4 stallions were normospermic, 12 stallions were disspermic, a stallion was necrospermic and the ejaculate from a stallion could not been collected. According to obtained results, the stallions removed from races immediately afterwards would not use as a stud. It was concluded that they would show libido sexualis and collected semen depend on individual properties of stallions by collection of semen orderly, improvement of care and feeding conditions and adaptation to environment.
