Aim: Septoplasty and functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) are common procedure done by otolaryngologists. However postoperative pain management is still challenging in these eases. The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of iv acctaminophen and lornoxieam given peroperatively, on postoperative pain management in septoplasty and FESS cases. Material and Method: 62 ASA I-II patients undergoing septoplasty and FESS operations were randomly allocated to 2 groups. Lornoxicam 8 mg and iv acetaminophen 1 gr was given to Group L and Group P respectively. Patients were evaluated after extuhation, in terms of pain at rest, VRS, PRS and patient satisfaction scores. The first analgesic requirement, maximum pain score and the time of maximum pain score and total amount of tramadol requirement (during the first 24 hours and side effects were recorded. Results: Demographic data was similar in all groups. There was no signifcant difference between groups in terms of pain scores at rest in the all measurement intervals. During the first 24 hours there was no significant difference for nausea, vomiting and severe pain incidence. In group L 8 % of the patients and in group P 4 % of patients were unsatisfied respectively. There was no significant difference in terms of patient satisfaction scores in the first 24 hours. At 48th hour, during nasal packing removal there were no significant bleeding or oozing. Conclusion: Acctaminophen when used as a single agent, has the similiar efficacy with lornoxicam in postoperative pain management in patients undergoing septoplasty and FESS.
