As an active member of
Antarctic Diplomacy and scientific research, Türkiye has valuable experience,
including seven Turkish Antarctic Expeditions, a temporary Scientific Research
Camp at Marguerite Bay on Horseshoe Island and regular attendance to the
Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings (ATCM).
The Antarctic and Arctic are
linked regarding Polar Diplomacy and scientific research. Based on this
relation, Türkiye has a growing interest in the Arctic, highlighted in the
National Polar Science Strategy (2023-2035) in connection with three Turkish
Arctic Scientific Expeditions and the acceding of the Svalbard Treaty.
With experience in Antarctic
Diplomacy and scientific research and the aim to become an Observer to the
Arctic Council, Türkiye definitely will be a part of the Arctic Diplomacy and
scientific research in the upcoming period.
