Abstract

A variety of clinically significant bi-directional interactions occurs between neoplastic and autoimmune and rheumatic diseases. Some autoirnmune and rheumatic diseases are associated with an increased incidence of specific neoplasms. Conversely, many neoplasms by a variety of mechanisms can cause or simulate many autoimmune and rheumatic manifestations/clinical pictures. These features may be the result of generation of autoantibodies, paraneoplastic syndromes, direct infiltration of the bone, joint and muscles or indirect infiltration by the tumor cells or combination chemotherapy.
