Özet

The purpose of this research is the selection of superior almond genotypes for consumption as appetizers within the almond population of Araban and Yavuzeli counties of Gaziantep province, which have suitable ecological conditions for commercial almond cultivation and richness in native almond population derived from seed. Selection study was conducted between 2014 and 2017. In respect of shelled and kernel characteristics, genotypes having medium and/or large nut in size, non-rancid kernels, medium or high yield during harvest maturity season were determined as promising genotypes and recorded for further evaluations. Among the 152 genotypes surveyed, 3 genotypes in Araban district (A-59, A-151 and A-153) and 3 genotypes in Yavuzeli district (Y-29, Y-51 and Y-104) were determined to be promising. For the genotypes that were determined to be promising according to the data gathered throughout the selection period, in addition to the nut characteristics of genotypes, protein (%), fat (%), ash (%), moisture (%), mineral matter contents and tree characteristics were also determined. Selected genotypes were transferred under preservation in Gaziantep Pistachio Research Institute Directorate, Genetic Resources parcel for further breeding studies.
