Özet

Microorganisms can colonize both the interior and the skin of the human body (Figure 1). This colonization has evolved alongside human evolution, establishing a complex host-microbiome relationship. While humans offer a habitat for these microbial colonies, the colonies, in turn, assist in breaking down molecules by metabolizing various compounds that the human body cannot process on its own. While this symbiotic relationship contributes to human health, in some cases, it can also increase the risk of disease (Cong and Zhang, 2018).
