The manual entitled "Methods for Childhood Nutrition" was published in 1927 by the Child Protection Institution in the Arabic alphabet before the alphabet reform. The manual is part of a series of manuals addressing mother and child health care. Before the presentation of the manual, which has been translated into the Latin alphabet, it will be helpful to examine that period's demographic and social structure as well as the prominent health care problems and social welfare services of the time. Thus, the first part of the article addresses (1) the health infrastructure during the decade including 1927 when the manual was published; (2) the prominent health care problems and the services provided; and (3) the establishment and objectives of the then-designated "Himaye-i Etfal Cemiyeti" (Turkish Association for Protection of Children), now the Child Protection Institution. This part primarily addresses the general health care problems and steps taken toward their resolution between 1920 and 1930. Following this general framework, the position within the circumstances of that period and the establishment objectives of the current Child Protection Institution, which published the "Methods for Childhood Nutrition" manual, will be explained. Thereby, the manual, which will be presented in the Latin alphabet, will be depicted clearly in terms of its place in this stage of history and the meaning attributed to it.
