Rational drug use is a planning, execution and monitoring process that ensures the efficacy and safety of drug treatment in an economic way. This process necessitates the state, pharmaceutical industry, the health professionals and the community rational behavior. The aim of this pilot study is to determine if the out-patients are using the drugs in rational way and from whom they request help. For this purpose questions are asked to 159 out-patients who went to the pharmacy of a hospital in Ankara. The data have been evaluation by SPSS (ver. 7.0) have been used statistical program. According to the results of the study, 75.5 % of the patients are using drugs without consulting medical doctor, 13.2 % are misusing the drugs and 24.5 % of the patients are advicing by people who are not health professional.
