Özet

Radiographic examination is an important phase of diagnosis and treatment in dentistry. In most cases, radiographic examination is adequately performed with conventional and digital periapical and panoramic films. However, such films project the three-dimensional planes in two dimensions, and this causes certain limitations during diagnosis and treatment. Such films provide sufficient images in mesial-distal and apical-coronal positions; however, they are not able to provide information in the buccal-lingual (sagittal plane) direction. In addition, they can lead to inaccurate diagnosis and treatment planning errors, since the anatomical structures and roots form superimpositions on each other during imaging within a two-dimensional plane. Thus in this chapter together with 2D and 3D imaging the detection of anatomical landmark will be discussed together with common dental pathologies.
