Ultrasonographic and thoracoscopic approaches for diagnostic evaluation of pleural effusion in dogs

Özet

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role, efficacy and safety of ultrasonographic and thoracoscopic method to determine the etiology of pleural effusion in dogs. It was compared to determine the consistency of the two methods. The present study was done on 8 dogs, with different breed, sex and age, suffering from respiratory problem sent for treatment to Ankara University radiodiagnostical unit from private clinics with veterinary faculty and identified pleural effusion by chest x-ray. It was concluded that thoracoscopy is non-invasive diagnostic method and plays a key role in diagnostic evaluation of pleural effusion. Both methods should be applied together for determine the etiology of pleural effusion in dogs.
