All right reserved.The antioxidant activities of five Lathyrus species growing in Turkey were investigated by using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging assay and the contents of total phenolics in the extracts were determined spectrophotometrically according to the Folin−Ciocalteu procedure and calculated as gallic acid equivalents (GAE). Among the Lathyrus species, remarkable high antioxidant activity and high total phenolic content was found in Lathyrus aureus. The results showed that there is a strong correlation between total polyphenol contents and antioxidant activity of the extracts.
