Oestrogen and progesterone are known to. require their corresponding steroid receptors (ER; PR) to manifest structural and functional effects in the uterus and other target organs (Vermeisch et al., 2000). The objective of the present study was immunohistochemical determination of ER and PR receptors in the canine uterus during the normal estrous cycle, CEH/pyometra complex and pregnancy and relating this to the changes in blood levels of the sex steroids.
