This paper demonstrates a single-layer polarization-independent Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) layer for sandwich radomes for filtering sub-X-band applications. Thermal plastic-based FSS performed a power loss of below 1% while filtering the band having a center frequency of 6.69 GHz with a bandwidth of 4.3 GHz. To demonstrate the impact of the radome FSS on the antenna performance, an array antenna operating at an X-band having a center frequency of 10GHz presented providing gain of 14 dBi is presented. The results of the single antenna array and the FSS-loaded configuration are compared and the results are presented for different polarization angles.
