Özet

Ziya Gökalp, one of the leading figures of Turkish sociology, was a thinker who witnessed the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the turbulence of the National Struggle and the establishment of the new Turkish state. The period in which he lived was a time of great debates between the Ottomanism, Islamism and Turkism movements and a deep uncertainty about the future of the Turkish nation was felt in almost all minds. This situation not only shaped the thinker's view of sociology, but also influenced and shaped his thoughts on the state. This study aims to examine Gökalp's view of the concept of state, his views on the Turkish state tradition, and his suggestions and predictions about the qualities and future of the new Turkish state. In this framework, firstly, Gökalp's assumptions and views on the concept of state in general are analyzed together with the concept sets he put forward. Then, Gökalp's views on the emergence and development of the Turkish state tradition and organization were tried to be revealed. Finally, the newly established Republic of Turkey has been analyzed in the light of the material and spiritual elements in Gökalp's views.
