Özet

This study was conducted on Holocene sediment cores taken from various water depths at the Gonen and Biga stream deltas with the Sea of Marmara and at the entrance of the Dardanelles Strait. The distribution of Cr, Ga, Ni, Zn, Mo, Cu, Pb, Yb, Y, Nb, Ti, P, Sr, Ba, Sn, Mn, Sc, Co, V, and Zr trace elements and C-org in sediments as well as the relationships between these elements were studied. The differences between the values of these elements vary from 1.8 to 13.75, having maximum variations in the case of Sn (9.0), Ba and Ni (10.5 and 10.0), Zr and Co (13.63), and Y (13.75). This variation for C-org is 6.82. Based on the concentrations of trace elements and C-org, the research area is separated into two fields: (1) the Gonen Stream delta (the field of Core no. 163) which showed enrichment in the average values of V, Co. Zn, Ti. P, Zr, Sc, Ba, and C-org; (2) the entrance of the Dardanelles Strait into the Sea of Marmara (the field of Core no. 18 1) which has lower accumulation levels in the average concentrations of Mo, Ni, Co, Zn, Ti, Pb, Yb, Sc, Nb, Ga, Y, Ba, Sn, Mn, and C-org. The C-org is generally of continental origin and is indicated to be of kerogen types III and II. It can be seen that the geochemical characteristics of the distribution of the continentally originated trace elements and organic matter within the Holocene sediments of the study area are controlled by the sediment grain size, the rate of sedimentation and hydrodynamic state of the basin, and diagenetic oxidation type conditions.
