The inhibitive action of compounds, derived from the reduction of N,N′-bis-(salicyaldehyde)-1,3-diaminopropane, towards the corrosion of iron in 1 M HCl solution was studied. The increase in the inhibition efficiencies of iron with increasing additive concentrations was explained on the basis of additive adsorption. The marked shift in the corrosion potentials and decrease in the anodic current density observed for all the compounds suggested that they act as anodic type inhibitors. The inhibition efficiency was found to depend on various factors including the number of adsorption centers, mode of interaction with the metal surface, and molecular size and structure.
