Opioid analgesic drugs constitute the majority of treatment options in the cancer pain treatment. When used in accordance with the accepted guidelines, succesful pain relief is achieved in most of the cancer patients. If the analgesia level is insufficient, side effects are intolerable of tolerance is developed during the usage of an opioid analgesic, the treatment can be continued with another opioid analgesic; which is called opioid rotation. The basic aspects of opioid rotation are explained in this paper.
