Özet

Stoma formation is a process commonly used in surgical practice, particularly in colorectal surgery. The lives of individuals who undergo stoma surgery are significantly affected. Changes and challenges in patients’ physical, psychological, social, sexual, and daily lives impact their quality of life, often leading to psychological disorders such as depression and anxiety. According to published studies, a thorough preoperative assessment, appropriate education, and support from a stoma care nurse both before and after surgery are crucial aspects for these individuals to adapt more comfortably to their new lives, cope with potential complications, and maintain their overall mental and physical health. This approach can contribute to an improvement in the quality of life of patients and a reduction in their risk of anxiety and depression. The relationships between quality of life and depression and anxiety appear to be interdependent, and these two conditions should not be considered entirely separately during evaluation.
