A total of 75 children with trauma were admitted to our department of Pediatric Surgery between 1.6.1987-31.12.1993. These patients were retrospectively evaluated and Pediatric Trauma Score (PTS) was resignated for each case. individual morbidity and mortality were correlated to PTS. The period of hospitalization was accepted as an index for morbidity. There were no mortalities in patients with PTS greater than two. On the other hand, the mortality rate in patients whose score was equal or less than two was 100 %. There was negative correlation between hospitalization periods and PTS. Our results indicate that PTS is an important tool for the initial assessment of injury severity and could help in the triage of injured children as well.
