A few cases of hypertrophic renal papilla has been reported in the literature. Because it can produce calyceal filling defects on excretory urography and mimic an urothelial tumor, identification of this rare entity is important especially when associated with hematuria. In this report we present a case with hypertrophic renal papillae who had painless hematuria and emphasize the role of multidetector computed tomographic urography and magnetic resonance imaging in noninvasive diagnosis. © 2008 Elsevier Ireland Ltd.
