Özet

Introduction and Aim: It can be argued that adjustment to university life and leisure activities on campus may have an important effect on the development of university students' sense of belongingness. Accordingly, this study was conducted to examine the predictive power of leisure satisfaction and adjustment to university life on sense of belongingness among university students. Method: The convenience sampling approach was used to choose 414 male (59%) and 288 female (41%), totaling 702 (Mage=21.35±2.73) university students for this correlational research. The study collected data using the " Adjustment to University Life Scale-AULS", "The Sense of Belongingness Scale-SBS", and "Leisure Satisfaction Scale-LSS". In addition to descriptive statistics, MANOVA, ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis methods were utilized in the data analysis after testing the basic assumptions of the parametric tests. Findings: The results of the MANOVA analysis showed that the main effect of gender variable on the sub-dimensions of the ''LSS'', ''AULS'' and ''SBS'' was significant and there were significant differences in the sub-dimension scores (p<0.01). It was found that there were significant differences in all sub-dimension scores of the ''LSS'', ''AULS'' and ''SBS'' according to the place of residence of the participants (p<0.01). Accordingly, the mean scores of those who lived on campus were higher than those who did not. In addition, it was found that there was a significant difference in the variable of social-cultural/fitness center membership in the campus in the ''psychological'' and ''educational'' subdimension scores of ''LSS'', ''perceived peer support'', ''perceived faculty support'', ''perceived isolation'', ''perceived empathy'' sub-dimension scores of ''SBS'' and all sub-dimension scores of the ''AULS'' (p<0.01). Finally, as a result of multiple linear regression analysis, leisure satisfaction and adjustment to university life explained 54% of the total variance in sense of belongingness (R=0.73.6, R2=0.54, p<0.01). Conclusion: In general terms, it can be stated that the increase in the level of leisure satisfaction and adjustment to university life increases the level of sense of belongingness in university students. For this reason, it is thought that it would be beneficial to organize recreational activities on campus in an effective and efficient way and to ensure the participation of students. In future studies, it can be said that it is important to examine the reasons for the results obtained in this study with different variables, longitudinal and qualitative studies in order to analyze in depth.
