Özet

The education progress for fisheries and aquaculture has been introduced within the scope of the discipline of zoology, and as of the mid-20th century academic teaching was started in 1948 in Ankara University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine together with bee diseases. One of the important educational steps was the formation of aquatic animals, fisheries, and fishery department at Ankara University in 1967 and further Fırat and İstanbul University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1970. The need for veterinary services in the aquaculture sector has also been underlined by international services such as OIE and FAO, and the employment of veterinarians in this sector has been clearly detailed in EU legislation. Focusing on the latest reports about the huge  growth in fish production of rainbow trout, sea bream, and sea bass in Türkiye, Aquatic Animal Diseases Departments have been established in five veterinary faculties besides veterinary faculties without counterpart departments include lectures related to aquaculture and fisheries. While comparing the numbers for undergraduate and postgraduate education, today, only two veterinary faculties are known to deliver postgraduate training in this field, namely Bursa Uludag and Ondokuz Mayis University. Similarly, looking up to EAEVE-approved veterinary education institutions the number is only 30 out of the 69 on aquatic veterinary medicine. In the present study, we aimed to conduct a retrospective study researching all published articles on the Web of Science, Google Scholar, and National Databases to summarize Veterinary Education programs on the basis of Aquatic Animal Diseases
