Abstract

• Pyroptosis is implicated in the pathogenesis of ionizing radiation so we investigated cell type involvement in a mouse model. • Pyroptotic markers were expressed highly at day 3 post total body irradiation (TBI) predominantly in immune cells from ileum. • We investigated the effectiveness of MCC950, a pyroptosis inhibitor, in our model showing survival benefit at 50 mg/kg. • Treatment with MCC950 showed elevation in full-length mediator IL-1β in ileum and decreased level of cleaved IL-1β in spleen.
