In this paper, RF thermocoagulation of the Gasserian ganglion in 5 cases of hemifacial spasm has been presented. The symptomatology, etiology and various treatments of the Gasserian ganglion result in selective destruction of some sensory fibers of the face and prevent the short-circulating of impulses from the afferent fibers of the face to the motor fibers of the facial nerve. According to the authors, RF thermocoagulation of the Gasserian ganglion is a simple method with little morbidity and without mortality. In this method patients with this disorder do not need to be hospitalized. However, in cases of posterior fossa pathologies, such as tumors, aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations, posterior fossa exploration should be performed.
