Özet

In this study, I discuss first some methodological topics in contrastive linguistics, which are related to linguistic typology, and some problems arising from these issues. Successively and in the same context, I try to demonstrate some conceptual-grammatical contrasts between Turkish and Dutch concerning pre- and postpositions as part of noun and verb phrases, which are evaluated in the light of concepts such as synthetic/analytic and verb-framed/satellite-framed. As a result of this structural analysis and related discussion, one can see that conceptual-grammatical contrasts between the two languages go sometimes far beyond these concepts, so they should be re-handled accordingly, particularly with a view on translation and bilingual language teaching.
