The present study was aimed to evaluate staining properties, light and electron microscopic structures and numerical distribution, of mast cells which are located at different regions of the swine oviduct. In the present study, oviduct samples taken from 6 healthy adult sows were used as material. It was observed that mast cells in regions of the oviduct gave Ab (Alcian blue) (+)/SO (Safranin O) (-) reaction. Results of the cell counting and their statistical analyses indicated that in oestrous phase the number of mast cells were significantly higher than luteal phase in the three parts of the oviduct. At both phases, mast cell numbers in the unit area were higher in fimbria region than those of the remaning regions of the oviduct (p<0.05). Results of electron microscopic observations revealed that mast cells contained three types of granulles those were electron lucent, electron dense and fine grain electron lucent granules.
