Özet

Ala'im-i Cerrahin and Cerrahname by unknown author are Turkish surgical treatises that were written at the end of the 15(th) century and at the beginning of the 16(th) century, respectively. The aim of this manuscript is to present these treatises and the author of Ala'im-i Cerrahin, Surgeon Ibrahim with special emphasis on its chapters related to circulatory system. This study is based on the handwritten manuscripts in the Library of Stileymaniye, Collection of Hekim Ali Pasa, no: 568 for Ala'im-i Cerrahin, and the Library of Istanbul Archaeological Museum, no: 729 for Cerrahname by unknown author. In the 3(rd), 4(th) and 9(th) parts of the 12(th) section of Ala'im-i Cerrahin, entitled "cemi'i rihleri beyan ider", the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system is described and in the 13(th) section, entitled "tamarlari ve ser-ciimle tamarlardan kan almagi beyan ider", information is given about some clinical conditions where treatment with venesection is performed. In the treatise, some information was quoted from Galen, Avicenna and Hippocrates, but some original opinions had been tossed out in it. The ninety-ninth part of the Cerroimame by unknown author, entitled "Hareket ider tamarlarda olan cerahati beyan ider" is on the arterial injuries. One of the important features of these works is that they were written with Turkish terms with only a few Arabic or Persian ones. To be known and presented to the benefit of next generations of these important historical treatises is crucial for the Turkish medical history and comprehension.
