Teaching Semiconductor Fundamentals Interactively using MATLAB: A Transfer Matrix Method Based Education Tool in One-Dimensional Periodic Medium

Özet

We designed a total of 8 simulation-based activities to teach semiconductor fundamentals to a diverse group of undergraduate students. These MATLAB based scripts accepts simple variables from the students to allow them to inspect and extract their results as well as to try new scenarios. A one-dimensional (1-D) Transfer Matrix Method (TMM) has been adapted. The combined activity series allow the students to have a smooth transition between each set of runs and gradually expose them to more advanced topics like emergence of bandgaps, band diagrams. We have received positive feedback after introducing the tool to the Underrepresented Minority (URM) students.
