Özet

Acıduman A, Kuş Ö (Department of History of Medicine and Ethics, Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey). On child health and diseases in Kitāb al-Mukhtārāt fī al-Tibb by Ibn Hubal al-Baghdādī. Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Dergisi 2021; 64: 49-59. The aim of this study is to translate the sections on child health and diseases in the book Kitāb al-Mukhtārāt fī al-Tibb written by Ibn Hubal al-Baghdādī in the 12th century from Arabic into Turkish and to bring the obtained information to the history of Turkish medicine literature and to evaluate this information in the context of that period. In this study, a printed copy of Kitāb al-Mukhtārāt fī al-Tibb in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, History of Medicine and Ethics Department Library was examined. Information on child health and diseases are discussed in the first volume of the work under the titles “The chapter on the prevention of the newborn”, “The chapter on the treatment of diseases of children” and “The chapter on the prevention of children, young people, middle-aged and the elderly”. As a result, it is possible to say that the information provided by Ibn Hubel al-Baghdādī about the health and diseases of children in his Kitāb al-Mukhtārāt fī al-Tibb corresponds to the information contained in the books of Rhazes’s The Book on Medicine Dedicated to Al-Mansur, Haly Abbas’s The Royal Book and Avicenna’s The Canon of Medicine.
