Stem cell research promises great hopes for treatment of chronic degenerative diseases and permanent disabilities as well as bringing important ethical problems to the agenda as well. These problems can be discussed as the sources of stem cells and the method to derive them, stem cell research processes, the use of stem cells at the clinical phase, and the ethical challenges afterwards. A wide consensus in the international arena has not been provided on the subject of stem cell researches. This situation arises from different sociocultural, religious, and political points of views as well as the dynamism of the stem cell researches. Even so, a common attitude towards the continuity of the studies on this field with different levels of restrictions and prohibition of cloning for the purpose of reproduction can be mentioned. On one hand adhering to general principles of research ethics in stem cell researches has a great importance; on the other hand in order to prevent gaps in the field, international regulations should be made, and such regulations should be updated by reviewing the studies in this field at regular periods in the light of scientific and social developments.
