Abstract
The effect of molybdates, in the concentration range 0.001-0.1 mol dm(-3), at pH 10, 7 and 3 has been studied using potentiodynamic and impedance methods. E-pp is seen to shift as much as 450 mV depending on the chloride ion concentration. The competitive adsorption of chloride and molybdate anions at the flawed regions followed by oxidation/reduction has been proposed as the passivating mechanism. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd.
