Abstract

The Second World War has in different degrees affected several countries. The most affected ones were undoubtedly those which participated in this War. One of them was Greece which had to face with poverty, misery and deaths. As a result, the Greek civilians and well as military men suffered much and many of them therefore took refuge in Turkish sea coasts. This paper is attempted to do research on the Greek civilian refugees taking refuge in the Turkish sea coast and give deatils about the reasons why and when they took refuge together with their numbers and places of destination for settlement. It has been seen that more than 30.000 Greek civilians between 1941 and 1945 due to the problems resulting from the German and Italian occupation of Greece took refuge mainly in Western Anatolia and partly in towns in the Mediterranean coast This papers also give information about Turkish government policy for these refugees and what happened to them finally. By this paper it is aimed to make it clear that a very unknown subject taking place between Greeks and Turks has been studied in detail mainly from the point of civilians.
