Nowadays the popularity of local infiltration anesthesia which has been used in craniotomies more than a century, has increased and 'scalp block technique' has been developed. With this technique perioperative hemodynamic stability has been maintained and postoperative pain has been controlled. We review the use of scalp block with its anatomy, its historical evolution, technique, advantages and complications. We also refer to its current and future applications.
