Özet

Theileria annulata is a protozoan parasite of which is transmitted via Hyalomma spp ticks is affecting the blood and circulatory system. It is essential to determine the strain infecting the animal as the severity of the disease closely related with it. Parasite isoenzyme electrophoresis is frequently used to identify type and strain of the many protozoa as in Theileriosis. Parasite isoenzyme determination gives clues in choosing the right strain for attenuated vaccine candidates and parasite-host interaction. In this study, it was aimed to demonstrate and characterize the variety of the serotypes of T. annulata with the biochemical technique called Glucose Phosphate Isomerase (GPI) starch gel electrophoresis. In our study, it is revealed that various serotypes of T. annulata exist in different regions of Turkey and this study can further be expanded to provide substantial data for various prophylactic measures such as vaccine development.
