Three groups of coarse-grained deltas are recognized, named as fan-deltas, braid-deltas and fjord-deltas. The coarse-grained deltas can be separated in the rock record by distinctive subaerial components of these depositional systems, as their shoreline and subaquous components are fairly similar. Fan-deltas are gravel-rich deltas formed where alluvial fans are deposited directly into standing body of water. Deposition of braid-deltas depends on braided streams entering into non-energetic body of water, and they have no necessary tectonic control, in contrast to fan-deltas. -from English summary
