Özet

The aim of this study is to search consumers knowledge level about the organic food consumption, reasons of consuming organic foods and whether they are environmentally-conscious or not while consuming these foods. This study was carried out in three specific organic food shops in Ankara province of Cankaya and Yenimahalle districts. A questionnaire form was used to collect the data and 'Proportional Sampling Method' was used to determine the number of the organic consumers. The data were collected through face to face interviews with 97 consumers in these shops. In the analysis of the organic food consumers sensitivity to the environment, Chi-square test was also used. The findings are as follows: consumers prefer organic food in general and among the reasons they prefer these foods are that they are health and certified products, they do not contain chemicals. Among the reasons consumers do not prefer organic food, these products high prices come first. Although health is an important factor in organic food consumption, some of the consumers also buy organic food taking the environmental factor into the account. According to the results of Chi-square test, findings indicate the consumers keep the health factor in the forefront rather than the environmental factor.
