We have investigated the magnetic properties of LaxR1-xMn2Si2 for various rare-earth elements R by examining the evolution of the features in the temperature dependence of the low field magnetization. By making use of the known magnetic structure of x = 0 and 1 from neutron diffraction studies, the low field magnetization can give information on the magnetic structure of the compounds at intermediate concentrations. The volume dependence of the transition temperatures pertaining to the Mn sublattice is clearly found to be almost independent of the type of R. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
