© 2022 University of Ankara. All rights reserved. Objective: In this study, aimed to determine the sensitivity of some important infectious agents to various disinfectants and antiseptics. Material and Method: Antimicrobial efficacy of glutaraldehyde 2 %, hydrogen peroxide 6 %, sodium hypochlorite solution (NaClO) (1000ppm) as disinfectant solutions and ethanol 70 % -chlorhexidine gluconate mixture 0.5 %, isopropyl alcohol 70 % and chlorhexidine gluconate mixture, isopropyl alcohol 70 % and povidone-iodine 10 %, as antiseptic solutions was evaluated with quantitative suspension test against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 15542, Staphylococcus epidermidermis ATTC 12228, Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 35984, methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) ATCC 43300, methicillin sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) ATCC 25923, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 reference strains that cause nosocomial infection. Result and Discussion: In our study, antiseptic agents other than povidone iodine solution 10 % were found to be effective against all microorganisms tested after 30 seconds and 1 minute contact times. Glutaraldehyde 2 % and sodium hypochlorite solution (NaClO) (1000 ppm) were showed sufficient antimicrobial activity for P. aeruginosa ATCC 15542 strain at 5 min, 20 min contact times except 1 min and all contact times against all other strains. Hydrogen peroxide 6 % solution did not show antimicrobial efficacy against S. aureus ATCC 6538, P.aeruginosa ATCC 15542, S. aureus ATCC 43300 (MRSA) and S. aureus ATCC 25923 (MSSA) strains at 1 minute of contact time. As a result, it was determined that alcohol-based (with chlorhexidine) antiseptics and glutaraldehyde 2 % and sodium hypochlorite (1000ppm) disinfictants showed the fastest and strongest antimicrobial effect.
