Özet
Disasters are destructive events that cause physical, economic, and social losses, depending on a society's vulnerability. Turkey is located on a high-risk seismic zone; 6 February 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes (Mw 7.7 and 7.6) caused massive destruction and infrastructure damage across 11 provinces. This study examines the damage to drinking water infrastructure caused by these earthquakes. Pipe ruptures, liquefaction, and deformations due to fault movements led to water source turbidity and flow rate losses. Corroded steel pipes and brittle materials (asbestos, cast iron) suffered significant damage. Additionally, a scenario-based analysis of the Yedisu Segment (with an Mw 7.3 potential) was conducted, identifying vulnerable points in water lines in Bingöl and Erzincan. Finally, recommendations for integrated water management plans were proposed to enhance disaster preparedness. The study highlights the critical role of water management in disasters and aims to minimize future damage.
