Abstract

The purpose of this study is to show the clinical usage of Gulhane Military Medical Academy External Skeletal Fixator (GATA-FIX) in traumatic coxofemoral luxation treatment in dogs and to discuss the clinical, radiological results that were obtained with our colleaques. The material of this study consists of 15 dogs, diagnosed on traumatic coxofemoral luxation from different breeds, ages and sexes. The cases treated with GATA-FIX external skeletal fixator and evaluated clinically and radiologically on the 7th, 14th, 21st and 90th postoperative days. It was observed that the cases used their affected extremities functionally within 24-72 hours after the operation and the functional recovery was provided "excellent" in 14 cases and one is "failed". The treatment with GATA-FIX external skeletal fixator was brought out to be a new, effective and successful method in the treatment of traumatic coxofemoral luxations in dogs. It was concluded that, this treatment method was an alternative, safety surgical procedure due to apply easyly on all size of dogs and affect minimally of the vital quality on the dogs.
