In this study, Sternbergia sicula Tineo ex Guss., a wild-growing species of Turkey and possessing alkaloids with important pharmaceutical properties has been thoroughly investigated for its anatomical features. For the anatomical studies, the cross and surface sections of the samples belonging to the root, bulb, scape, leaf, flower and fruit of the plant are taken manually. Generally, the thickening of the endodermal cellwall is not observed in contrast to herbaceous monocotyledons. Starch grains have been determined in bulb scales. Similar anatomical characteristics are observed for the flower and the leaf. Moreover, the leaf is bifacial and amphistomatic. As a result, the anatomical characterictics of S. sicula are determined in detail.
