Özet

The effects of continuous spinal anaesthesia and epidural anaesthesia on intraoperative hemodynamic status, anaesthetic quality and postoperative complications were evaluated on 34 male patients who received a transurethral prostatectomy or a transurethral resection of bladder carcinoma. The patients in continuous spinal anaesthesia group received 7.5 mg of 0.5 % bupivacaine through a subarachnoid catheter, placed at spinal interspace L3-4 while the patients in epidural anaesthesia group were administered 50 mg of 0.5 % bupivacaine and 10 mL of isotonic saline through an epidural catheter placed at the same level. In both groups, diastolic and mean arterial pressures showed significant falls similarly. In continuous spinal anaesthesia group sensorial blockade significantly started earlier and raised earlier when compared with epidural anaesthesia group. No postoperative complications were seen in any of the groups. By considering the rapid starting effect, easy technique, low anaesthetic requirement, low risk of systemic toxicity and existence of no postoperative complications, continuous spinal anaesthesia seems as an alternative technique to epidural anaesthesia.
