Alterations in glucose and insulin metabolism in liver cirrhosis was widely investigated so far. Yet, there has been no study on the glucose, insulin and C peptid metabolism in pure hepatosteatosis. In this study, we investigated the latter subject by means of oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). In this study, 29 patients (13F/16M, age: 35 ± 9, body mass index (BMI): 24 ± 3) and 11 healthy people as control group (3F/8M, age; 27 ± 7, BMI: 23 ± 2) were studied. Macrovesicular hepatosteatosis was diagnosed by liver biopsy specimens. The Patients with cirrhosis or fibrosis and all other etiological factors responsible for in hepatosteatosis were excluded. High ALT, AST and GGT levels were found in one (1/29; 3%), 5 (5/29; 17%), and 5 patients (5/29; 17%) respectively. In both groups, oral glucose tolerance test was performed. Blood glucose, insulin, and C peptide levels were determined at basal, 30., 60., 90., 120. min. There was no significant differences between the groups for any parameters. We concluded that there is no impaired function of glucose, insulin and C peptide metabolism in idiopathic hepatosteatosis.
