Özet

The global population continues to increase rapidly, which has led to an increase in food demand. Agriculture is still relying on inorganic fertilizers and pesticides, which ultimately damage soil quality. Therefore, keeping soil quality is an essential requirement for sustainable agriculture. Generally, organic and bio-organic materials positively affect the soil quality in agriculture. Organic amendments reclaim and restore overworked farmland soils to maintain organic matter (OM) for soil fertility and agricultural production, particularly in the long-term, by releasing nutrients slowly. However, there are some precautions when using OM. This is because if the nutrients in the OM are not taken into consideration, the overuse of the OM causes an environmental burden. Therefore, it is important to use OM properly for suitable soil conditions. The application of organic materials such as green manure, biochar, and organo-mineral fertilizer is indispensable for improving the soil quality, especially in the cropland where over-fertilizing is conducted. In addition, it will be necessary for the future to fully understand the number of nutrients in the soil. In this chapter, we reviewed organic materials to be considered alternative strategies for over-fertilizing to maintain sustainable agriculture.
