Slotted waveguide antennas play a significant role in radar systems, high power microwave applications, wireless communications and military navigation systems. The advantages of slotted waveguide antennas can be given as high gain, high power capacitance, high directivity, low loss with low cross polarization. It is preferable to use slotted waveguide antennas due to their minimal cost and simple fabrication. In this study, a slotted waveguide antenna at S band frequency is designed by opening nine rectangular slots with rounded corners on the broad wall of a rectangular waveguide. Metal reflectors, known as wings, are affixed to the slotted waveguide antenna to enhance the gain and to reduce side lobe levels. The width and tilt angle of the metal wings have been systematically investigated for the first time to our knowledge to enhance the performance of the conventional slotted waveguide antenna with four wings. The proposed design is optimized by using a full-wave electromagnetic simulation tool.
