Gerbera, a popular cut flower, is known for its short vase life, which can be a significant challenge for growers and distributors. Factors such as water loss, and the accumulation of microorganisms can all contribute to the rapid senescence of cut gerbera. To address this problem, explored the use of various plant growth regulators, such as growth hormones and antimicrobial agents, to enhance the vase life of cut gerbera in the study. The effect of meta-Topolin (0.01, 0.02 and 0.05 mM), succinic acid (25, 50 and 100 mg L−1) and benzyl adenine (25, 50 and 100 mg L−1) applied as different holding solutions on the senescence of cut gerbera was investigated. Meta-Topolin significantly reduced water uptake stress during the vase life of gerbera flowers and was effective in extending gerbera flower life by maintaining flower quality better than other treatments. Based on the available data, meta topolin is a cytokine that can be considered as an anti-senescence agent.
